Here's the latest off the bench. An OM, Oregon myrtlewood back and sides, western red cedar top, mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard, finished in Royalac. This one is going to a young lady who desperately needed an upgrade from her GS-mini! I was really curious how this would sound. When voicing the top it was easily the most responsive top I've ever worked on. It had insane sustain, even with light taps. I was worried that it might be too responsive. But I am very pleased with the result. It's definitely complex, with a lot of harmonics going on. But very rich sounding. But I was still able to do clean finger picking with nice separation of the notes. Next round using a WRC, I'll likely keep it a little thicker, but I'm still super pleased. Tony she's a beauty and I love the colors too. My last guitar number 55 that is still in our shop (not completed) was black acacia and WRC with the same colors because I wanted this look too. This guitar looks like it's destined to be the best old friend some lucky client will ever have! Beautiful work Tony! |
