I haven’t posted a completed build for quite a while so I thought I’d post a few pics of this, one of two recently completed guitars. This one is a grand auditorium sized body in black limba with a lutz spruce top. Neck is also black limba. Fretboard is ziricote bound in ebony. Bridge is ziricote as well and yes, that grain pattern is naturally occurring. Scale is 25 1/4”. I’m experimenting with shooting guitar photos against a newly acquired seamless background. Pretty pleased with the results so far. Enjoy! |

I’m a big fan of mostly all wood appointments on guitars. You did an outstanding job on this one. Beautiful. |

Nice! Looks like it even has a little figure in it. I have a few sets of BL but have not used any yet. What do you think of it? Is it easy to work and bend? |

Sweet! Black limba is a favorite, sounds great, reasonably priced, and easy to work with. M |

Andy that came out nice. How would you compare the overall weight of the guitar vs one where you had used Mahogany instead of the Black Limba? |

In my experience, mahogany and black limba are pretty much equal in weight and sound. |

Thanks for all the kind words. I’d agree with others about black limba being similar to mahogany in weight and workability. Perhaps a bit easier to bend...less tendency to compress on the inside of the curve than mahogany, I found. Finish on this one: pore fill with two coats of ZPoxy followed by two or three coats of blonde shellac, then about a dozen coats of Emtech EM6000. Level/wet sand 800, 1000, 1500, then buff with medium and fine compounds. |

That's a Beauty! It looks like you book matched the sound hole ring. |

Andy I listened to both of them. I really don't know how steel string guitars are supposed to sound, delayed ome, or thought about it. Yeah, I've heard J. Taylor and P. Simon, that's about all I can think of! Pathetic, isn't it? The first is very clear. This one sounds almost like an electric, or 12 string, it has some sparkle to it. Probably different in person, but they are distinctly different sounding. I'd be hard pressed to choose between them. Nice |
