Post subject: | Strings, the same but different |
I have Aquila Ambra 900 strings on my atchop. They sound great. For my little Stauffer I'm going to use the Ambra 800 strings, basically a lighter version of the 900 strings, for early instruments. I checked the length from the 12th to the bridge (is there a name for that?) on each string. I assumed that the 800's would be similar. I stretched them out on my new tool, checked how much clearance they needed at the12th, a little bit more, and then mapped out the bridge to 12th measurement. Same trends, not nearly as much change between strings. That makes it easy, I can just use a straight bridge and not a doubled angled one. But it just seems weird. I did have to make a bridge when I put on the Ambra's because the adjustable bridge I had could not be made far enough back for the g. They assume that you have a wound g. Here are the 2 tables high to low, just the extra length. 3.5 4.5 5.5 2.5 3.5 4.5 2 2.5 3 1.5 2 2.5 |
