I happened to spot this little tool at Harbor Freight and bought it to hold onto the saddle and nut blanks when I am shaping them. It is very cheap and works great for keeping my finger tips off the belt sander. It is also handy for holding the saddle when I am doing the final filing by hand. |

Thanks for that. I've seen those used for clamping and welding sheet metal and never thought of using for saddles. Makes perfect sense. |

I have one of those that I've used for bending flashing for construction--never thought of using it like that. Great idea! Dave |

We have and use Dan Earlywine's Dad's belt sander so we never mind when it eats part of our fingers and it does at times too |

And I'd say everyone who has used it has left a bit on DNA on it - I know I did |

James Not here I'm home for the weekend but I'll take one Tuesday and post. It may not be a widow maker but the significant other of the sander user may find themselves short changed. |

The little StewMac vise is good for shaping nuts and saddles on the disc/belt sander too. 5CACA8BE-B343-4084-B11F-0587E1609BEA by Terence Kennedy, on Flickr |
