How do you "clamp everything down"? Does locking the pivoting part provide enough pressure to keep it tight for routing or do you need to add external clamps? I don't see any in the video. Pat |

I don't see any in the video. Pat I was just having that same thought. I would grab the body and jig all in a body clamp/vise. I’ll rewatch that video in a minute. Edit - when he routs the body, you can see the clamp screw clamping the jig to the guitar body. The neck looks like it is clamped in a typical body / bench vise, along with the jig. |

I see the clamp screws when he's doing the neck but not the body. Seems like the body would be the hardest to fasten securely to the jig and most critical. Pat |

Yes, you definitely need to firmly clamp the jig to the part being routed. The screws simply lock in the angle. On the body, clamping through the sound hole is advised- being careful not to damage the UTB. |

It'd be easy enough to add adjustability for a radiused back. |

If it is designed for a bolt on neck there may something to be said for making the mortise very slightly bigger than the tenon for a little wiggle room in alignment. (At least having that option) I am not sure I see any real advantage to a snug fit in that application. I have been doing a mortise and tenon bolt on for many years and found that at least for my purposes a slightly loose fit was helpful especially in tweaking axial alignment. The old StewMac plexiglass templates were designed that way. Not sure if they still are. That option and a more secure attachment system to the body for the body mortising jig wound make this nice looking device more attractive to me. |
