Well, I do the inlay but you do the cut and graving. I have a client who purchased a guitar for his wife last year and she wants an inlay on the headstock of a mermaids tail.

I thought I would ask here first and help some forum members out with some work. Anyone here do that kind of thing? It would need to be in abalone. CNC is fine, hand made what ever.

Or perhaps you know someone out there who does this kind of work?

Please reply or PM.

Regards.

Wendy Larrivee? I am not sure if you can only get her work installed on a Larrivee guitar, or if she does custom work on other headplates. But it is nice work.

Craig Lavin is the ocean guy, so a mermaids tail is right in his wheelhouse.

You got the image already?

Jimmi Wingert is another very talented inlay artist you could check with.

Thanks for the suggestions. I do not have an image. I guess that's the way it would normally work? I was hoping the artist could provide something.

I cannot seem to find anything on Craig Lavin. It appears he used to have a website but that URL is now defunct. Do you have any contact info for him?

Something to consider is the graving is done after the piece is inlayed. So you will probably need to send the guitar out.

Ah ok thanks. Perhaps I can just send the neck too if it comes down to it. Or even just remove the headplate and install the new engraved one.

I've used Larry Robinson before. I just sent him a head plate with my head stock/tuner holes drawn on it and it worked out great.

+1 on Dave Nichols. He did work for me a couple years ago. He used to (not sure if he still does) be the guy Martin used for inlay. Great guy. Great work. Image
This is my headstock plate he did for me.
