I finished up a new build this week, a cocobolo dred. This was a project that sat on the shelf for a long time. I thought it was cursed to never be finished there for a while. I made a few mistakes early on but mostly recovered from them. It does sound really nice though. This is the build where the first top was ruined because the router rode up onto the top when routing the binding channels. Learn a little bit each time and move on. I will record a few clips after it has sat a week or so. - Cocobolo back and sides - Spruce top - Ebony fretboard, bridge and binding - Cocobolo rosette and head plate - Gotoh open gear tuners - UV cured finish Thanks for looking. Here are a couple of clips of this guitar. I record with an SM57 into an iRig Duo attached to an iPhone. It works ok but not fancy. Fingerstyle https://youtu.be/kxrLqj8AyR4 With a pick https://youtu.be/7vPj89HAC4g Brad Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Big sound and a unique aesthetic—I like it. The sap wood on the ribs is cool and something I don't recall having seen before. Well done! |

Looks and sounds great, Brad! I can offer one suggestion and it isn't about the guitar at all: For strumming, I think putting the mic in a different position might make it a little less boomy. The most favored position is usually over the neck/body joint, facing toward the soundhole just a bit. In fact, where you have it (in terms of distance from the guitar) is good, but having it in the bridge area might not be ideal. But, every guitar is different, and I'm not there, so what do I know? Your mic location for the fingerpicking seemed great to me, in contrast. Beautiful guitar! |

The setup is actually two mics, an SM57 and an SM58 (which is just a 57 with a windscreen from what I understand). Both are going into the iRig Duo and then “summed” to mono out to the phone. I have one mic pointed as you suggest, neck body join, and the second pointed at the soundhole / bridge area. I will try just a single mic at the neck joint. I do hear what you are saying. There is a thunk or bottoming out kind of sound. I hear it when listening with headphones. Thanks for the feedback!! Brad Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
