Post subject: | How many coats of Enduro Var in a single day? |
I am applying Enduro Var with a foam brush, and waiting a little less than an hour between coats; no sanding in between. I put a single coat on a few days ago, then sanded with 320 to eliminate drips and scuff it up, and now I have put on two coats so far today. I was planning on putting one more coat on at least, but I can just keep going and put more coats on, leaving less than an hour between, if there is no downside to doing so. Or, I can stop at 3 coats for today, sand it tomorrow, and put on another 3 coats. And then I can get back to it a few days later (sanding before applying another 2-3 coats). Thoughts? I don't want to overdo the coats if more than 3 in a day is too much, but I also don't want to waste the time I have available. Thanks for any wisdom. |

I used EnduroVar for the first time on my last instrument and brushed it on. I did 8 coats 1 hour apart on the first day, level sanded the next morning, and then did 6 coats 1 hour apart that day. It worked great. Temperature at the time was 70 degrees. The schedule I used was based on Woodie G's schedule for brushing on EnduroVar. |

Perfect info, Jay! I’m following the same brushing instructions; I just wasn’t sure if there was a limit to how much I should try to build in a single day. I’m just going to keep going for a while! I appreciate it. |

A brushed-on coat wetted the 2 mil tooth, but not the 3 mil tooth on the gauge so at least 2 mils but less than 3 mils. |

Here's a finishing schedule I used with modifications on the upright bass. https://generalfinishes.com/blog/2016/0 ... lyurethane |
