Apologies if this has been covered a lot, but I had a search and can’t find anything. I’m looking for plans for a smaller bodied archtop guitar, any suggestions? Ideally anywhere from 15” lower bout width down to that holy grail epiphone Olympic size 13 5/8” I’m trying to avoid scaling down bigger plans if possible as I’m unsure of the implications on changing the thickness gradient. Any advice gratefully received. |

I just built a 15" for a jazz guitarist in Minneapolis based on L. Mottola's plans. It turned out great. This one had double Mahogany sides and laminated plates from Steve Holst. Outer lam Mahogany on the back and Spruce on the top. It actually had a surprisingly good acoustic sound. Mounted Kent Armstrong humbucker. https://www.liutaiomottola.com/instruments/girasoli.htm 8F3DB0A5-0578-44D1-A5E5-83DA6C15B7D0 by Terence Kennedy, on Flickr 05A0D971-84A4-43BA-9750-4AD6EA4A6DAF by Terence Kennedy, on Flickr |

That’s fantastic thank you. You’ve done a lovely job there, the depth on that burst is to die for too! |

Gorgeous! I am in the process of building a 15" double cutaway archtop. I started with an old Epiphone Spartan pattern which was 16" and scaled it down-by eye to what looked good to me. I originally used it for my Jazz Classical model with a single cutaway. If you look on my website goodmanguitars.com there is a photo and you can see the shape. |
