It usually takes me between 4 to 6 hours to fit a dovetail on one of my archtop guitars.

It’s just one of those things you can’t rush.
It has to be perfect or else all my work was in vain...

Looks good! The way I approach dovetail fitting, and other difficult luthiery tasks, is that it will take as long as it takes to do it right.

Do you finish with the neck on or was this just a trial fit? Looks nice.

Was going to be my question too - looks like you cleaned up a glued joint. Do you find finishing, leveling, and polishing to be difficult in that area?

Yes, on the archtops I attach the neck before I finish.

The main reason is so I can sand the joint flush on the treble side of the neck where it meets the side.

It's certainly not as easy as having the neck unattached , but I am so used to doing it that it is not much more difficult to me.
