Hello,

As the subject states, I’m getting ready to spray my first slotted headstock. The last time I had a slotted headstock I used wipe on poly. Any tips for spraying, leveling or buffing? This will be the first time trying to buff a slot head.

Brad

Jay Lichty has some tips on spraying a slotted headstock in his video on finishing. At around 2:12:00 in this video:

Often the insides of the slots are less well finished than the rest of the peghead. You can "paint" the finish on the slots to build it up some, lightly sand it and sand off any that was brushed on the face and back of the headstock, then just concentrate on spraying the face and back without making it a point to try to coat the insides of the slots. Some additional finish will land in the slots when you are spraying which won't hurt anything, and you can buff it out with the rest of the guitar.

Tilt your spray gun at an angle and you will get "some" finish on the sides of the slot.
