Post subject:  Gotoh 510s headstock thickness?

Client has bought and is supplying his own fancy tuners for a commission, but I don't have then yet.
Trouble is we're in lockdown.
I'm looking for the headstock thickness to fit them.
I believe they are basically the same fitting dimensions as standard 510s, but can't find anything on the net for a headstock thickness range.

LMII has a blueprint of the 510 on the website.

Thanks, got info from the Gotoh website for general dimensions (LMII site doesn't even show the threaded bushing)
I need a headstock thickness range.

Most of the Gotoh tuners for paddle heads have the same headstock thickness range, I think. The A20LX part in your description
is in reference to the button, so I would think it's similar to this one in link. They should be ok with headstocks from 10mm to at least
15mm.

Colin: the info really is in the Gotoh pdf catalogue, but not that easy to decipher. The standard post is 20.2 mm from base to string hole. The collar is 12.2 mm long. That part number indicates a Grover-style engraved button. Must be pricey!

The 510's I have can be used from about 13mm to 15mm (just over to 1/2" to almost 5/8"). You could use them on a thinner peghead but you would have to file or grind off some to the bushing because it bottoms out.

9/16" or 14.2mm seems to be the sweetspot.

I am in the process of putting some on a head that is exactly 1/2 inch thick (which was called out as the minimum in a spec sheet somewhere). That is marginally too thin, I'm probably going to have to use extra thick washers. I'm kicking myself for not actually having them in hand when I planed the head plate.

I use them on my archtops and also use 0.60.

Thanks guys, sounds about the same as the Gotoh 381s I've been using.
Klooker, that's the same way I measure - screw the bush in, find the mid-point, maximum and minimum measurements
Thank you.

As per Kevin's pics I checked a set of 510's I had on the shelf and they bottomed out at 12.5mm.
When I said 10mm for the minimum headstock thickness I was assuming the bushing would go all the way
home. 'Course it doesn't. Should'a been smart like Kevin and gone and measured.

For 510's I use about 9/16" or 14.29mm, + or - about .75mm

I was curious as to what this tuner looks like, time on my hands, so I went alookin'.
Aluminum engraved grover style button, as Tim pointed out.

Button on page 48 in the 2020 cat. Nice.

Bit whorehouse for me, but client bought them when he was a "little bit more than tipsy" so wanted to find a use for them. :)

I think you'll find that they will bottom out at 1/2" (or slightly thicker, very slightly) so you might get buzzing from the washers. I just take the bushings to the belt sander and take off a few threads. I've got a pair of vise grips that have mark on them where I pinch the flat part and sand the threads until I just kiss the vise grips. Easy peasy.
