People have mentioned that they used a rotisserie set up when finishing with Enduro-var to minimize runs. Now that the weather is getting warmer I am thinking about spraying rather than brushing that finish. Does anyone have pictures of their rotisserie setup? Would something like a barbecue rotisserie motor work? |

I don't have any photos of my setup right now BUT you can approach this in a multitude of ways. You want the RPM to be very low - 15 to 20 RPM. You will also need the setup to be stable since it has to hold your guitar. The method of connecting needs to be quite secure as you don't want your work crashing to the ground !!! Any way that you can dream up that will hold your instrument and spin it securely is all you need. My setup is elaborate and quite expensive - I spent a few hundred dollars building my rotisserie. I have a 3 phase conveyor motor off eBay and a VFD to control it. This then spins a hollow aluminum pipe above the motor. The pipe rotates on two pillow block bearings. It's all held together by a rectangular MDF box that is open on one face. I wanted to use a hollow pipe so that I could put my neck and body on "paint sticks" or "holders" like you use when spraying a finish. Now I can just insert the sticks into the hollow pipe, lock them down, and I'm done. I can do two parts at one time. I'm planning on doing up a writeup of how I do my oil varnish finish work along with photos. I'm about to start finishing in a couple weeks and will post everything here on the OLF when I'm done. |
