I finally got my number 9 strung up - still needs to be setup more. Cocobolo B&S, Red Spruce Top, African Blackwood Fretboard, Bridge, Headplate. Influenced by the Larson Brothers wrt looks, but my standard X bracing. Attachment: IMG_5782.jpeg Attachment: IMG_5789.jpeg Attachment: IMG_5784.jpeg Attachment: IMG_5786.jpeg Glenn |

Beautiful Glen. I especially like the range-hood-inspired ornament at the 14th fret in the first shot The bridge is lovely Ed |

Did you make the purfling yourself? Very unusual and nice. Great job overall. How does it sound? |

Thanks! Body shape is after the Larson Brothers Prairie State model. Mine come in at 17.25" at the lower bout. I make the guitar at OM depth. Yeah, we have 3 cats, a dog, and rabbit... one usually photo bombs Ha! wrt range hood ornament Ed! kind of does look like its growing out of the guitar. Bridge was directly inspired by Stefan Grossman's Larson Bros Prairie State, where Jon Lundberg replaced the bridge with similar. I always thought it looked awesome. Stefan huge influence on me in general, as I was fortunate to have take guitar lessons with him over span of a few years. I had Gurian make the dentile purflings. I then put it all together, used a plastic filler for where the pearl goes, and cracked in the pearl by hand - a method I learned Form John Hall. The bindings are Holly. A pic below of me trying to manage to get the darn things in. I got the idea from an old Larson Brothers guitar that had the red purflings, pearl, etc. Attachment: IMG_0554.jpeg

Beautiful guitar, I love the way the small details all come together, like the fretboard inlays matching the points on the bridge, and the red dots on the bridge pins with the red in the bindings. Do you have any pictures of the back and side treatments? |

My only regret is I didnt do alot with the back. On my Stella Grand concert, I used same purflings around the back and backstrip - I should have done that on this guitar. But I thought the cocobolo was gorgeous by itself, so I just let the wood speak for itself. I don't have a good pic of back, but this gives an idea. I used Holly for the bindings etc, and Note to self - Holly and cocobolo is a BAD idea lol. Attachment: IMG_0925.jpeg Attachment: IMG_0924.jpeg

I think letting the back and sides speak for themselves was the right thing to do. That is a lovely set of Coco. I am amazed you were able to keep the holly as white as it appears. |

I kept sealing with shellac anytime I scraped or sanded the cocobolo. It was a lot of extra effort trying to keep the holly from staining. |

First: Beautiful guitar! I love everything about it. Second: Yes, it is not easy to deal with a dark back/side wood and real wood, light colored binding, but I feel it is worth the effort. I use maple binding with east indian rosewood a lot, and while it is a challenge to keep the maple clean, the end result is just gorgeous. Again, well done. I really like that guitar. |

That's a lovely guitar. Especially since you've only built 9. I'm a huge fan of the Larson Brothers, as well. |
