I use Thurston blades in 0.023" for fret slotting and they are great. Very accurate cuts in wood, will hold up a set of feeler gauges by putting the end of the 0.023 blade in the slot. I get them from - https://www.mcmaster.com/screw-slotting-saws But to use small dia blade I made a slotting saw out of a 7" sliding miter saw. It took some fiddling to set up the saw but I love it. |

If you want hand saws, you can get there by adjusting the set of a saw that’s close. I have a dovetail saw that I pounded flat (.019”) then sharpened and set to .023”. For my table saw, I had The Blade Mfg. Co. make me a 10” blade. They came a bit small on the kerf, so I fixed it with the set. The advantage of their blade was that they thinned it on the edge from a thicker blank so stiffeners weren’t required. |

why .027 that is a very wide kerf for modern fret wire. Most blades are .023. and that is what the fret wire is mostly designed for. Measure tang without the barb. |

John I recently built a guitar with Robbie Obrien he uses .027 fret kerf size. I liked how easy the frets went in. Ive noticed that .23. just doesn't work all that great with ebony. Maybe I should just jump it down to .025......... |

FWIW, I use a .025 blade for all my guitars, which is readily available through LMI... Before I knew that size was available, I was using a .023 and burning the slots wider with a hot putty knife. The difficulty I was having at .023 went away at .025... |
