With winter getting firmly into swing I've moved one of my 3 "work" hygrometers from the shop into the house to keep an eye on things. I've just splashed out $16 on one of these for the shop. Good out of the box, is very responsive, can be calibrated, and you can set audible alarm limits for humidity. AcuRite 01080M Pro Accuracy Temperature and Humidity Monitor with Alarms, designed in Switzerland (made in China) Seems to be getting good reviews. |

I have a different model Acurite that always reads 44% in the potassium carbonate test, which equilibrates at 43%. Plenty accurate in the RH range that matters to builders. |

I had a few and for me the sucked I like analog easier to calibrate. That to me is key if you can calibrate them often they are all over the place off the shelf |

I have this one. The price on Amazon has gone up from 15 to $20. I keep calibrated Abbeons in my house and in my shop ( and I check the calibration at least annually). I calibrate the Acurite against the Abbeon in my 40% shop. The Acurite holds its calibration well, at least in the range around 40%, and stays close to the Abbeon reading in the house where the humidity varies. I have bought many of theseāI calibrate them, use them for a while to make sure they are reasonably accurate, and include them with a purchase if my guitars to make it easier for my customers to not screw up. The model that I pictured is the first electronic one that I have seen that is actually useful. Every other one I have tried was either off in the beginning or became that way in a few months. |
