Just got a blurb that Allied has bought out Walter Lipton’s stock of tonewoods. I have purchased the majority of my wood from Walter/Euphonon over the last 14 years. Great stuff, especially the old Mahogany for necks and bodies. Nice old Sitka too as well as BZ bridge blanks.

I remember my first call to Walter around 2004. He asked me how many guitars I had built. I told him around 10. His answer was “well I can’t sell you the good stuff yet”.

I knew right there and then that he was a guy I wanted to work with.

After Lewis Luthier Supply in BC Canada went south (I mean they really went south to become LMI) I ordered from Walter, especially strings. They always had great strings at a really good price.

Actually, the full story is even more intriguing. Allied Lutherie, formerly operated by Grant Taggart, having taken over the business from parents Todd and Mary, was recently purchased by a Vermont-based group. Two trailer loads of timber and machinery crossed the continent last month and are now residing in Shelburne, VT, just south of Burlington. A new chapter in Allied’s history has begun.

I'm close enough I could go and select my wood in person, pay the Canadian taxes on the return.

I think this might work out...we get an additional US East Coast supply house, and Allied continues in business.

It's nice that you have that option now Tim!

Looks like I might have waited too long to return all those funky truss rods...
