I received an e-mail from Hibdon Hardwood (my favorite neck blank supplier) this morning, letting me know they are having a clearance sale on some lower grade woods. I looked on their website, and there are some very, very good prices. If you just need some “structural” mahogany or test back/side pieces, or “learning experience” parts, this might interest you.

I also checked their higher grade neck blanks, and they continue to have a very good deal (in my opinion) on mahogany for a scarf joint, block heel neck.

Just passing along the info. No connection, other than having been satisfied in the past with the quality of the wood and their prices, as well as the ease of dealing with them.

I bought my neck mahogany from a lumber dealer up the street. It's 4x4 deck post. This is my first guitar but nor my first neck. I bought the high priced "luthier" stuff before and really don't see the difference.

Wish I had room for more wood Those cheap blanks are great for combining with the regular priced ones. For example take a 30" blank and scarf cut it in the middle to make two shafts, and then use the cheap stuff for the headstocks and heels.

I live in a bit of a wood desert; no decent lumber suppliers nearby. I can get the normal stuff at Lowe’s and Home Depot, and if I beat the bushes at my local woodworking club, I can get connections with local suppliers of locally harvested woods. But none of that gets me access to Honduran Mahogany, or quartersawn wood big enough for tops/backs/sides. So, for me (and I suspect a number of others), it is online shopping or nothing. Hibdon has been great for me, along with others.
