You are almost done with a build and find the truss rod on the bench!!!!
And then realize it’s an extra rod.

Or when you remember the tape covering the truss rod slot......... when you are standing back admiring how you glued the fretboard on so nicely.

Aren't your truss rods shrink wrapped?

It was the Allied type, where only the round rod is wrapped but the threads are exposed as well as the rectangular top bar.

Standard practice in the shop where I learned was; a dab of caulk in the middle at the bottom of the channel to prevent rattle, then tape over the rod before applying glue, then remove the tape and clamp the fretboard on.

Side note: one guy in the shop, apparently over eager to nip the potential rattle in the bud, got carried away with the caulk and spent a long long time trying to remove the silicone off of the finely prepared and dimensioned mahogany face. Not where you would want an adhesion problem. A little dab'l do ya!

. . . you're buffing out the finish on your first guitar and realize that all the fretboard markers are one fret off. Building classicals now, so it's no longer an issue.

I would say most of our classical customers request dots on the side of the fingerboard. Even some flamenco players.
