Nice one robbie PEI is beautiful. But can you shave your braces while its mounted on the barbers chair ?? |

It might be interesting to make a go bar deck where you could raise the base but leave the top of it stationary to adjust the space between. An automotive floor jack or even a couple of scissor jacks might work for that if you didn't want to spring for the hydraulic barber chair base. |

My idea is to have the 4 supports built in such a way that you either had notches, could insert a dowel or had a sliding mechanism you could tighten in order to give 4 corners of adjustable height. Not a gobar deck, but I did this for my old 1950s Delta bench top drill press. There is no rack and pinion for the table height, so loosening the table adjust bolt resulted in the heavy cast iron table crashing to the base every time. A cheap $15 harbor freight scissor jack is nothing I would ever trust to lift a car, but it works great as an aftermarket lift on a drill press table. |

Thanks Paul, I have a bench top Delta radial drill press that lacks the rack and pinion. The scissor jack sounds like a good option. The older you get the more of a struggle it becomes. I would pile up scrap to raise the work piece rather than fight with raising the table, but jacking it up would be the better (and safer) way to go. Does anyone know how to change the chuck on a Delta radial press? |
