Just completed this guitar.

The details...OO sized body is African ebony. Top is torrified Engelmann spruce with wonderful bear claw figure. The neck is mahogany. Fretboard and bridge are Indian ebony. Body, fretboard, and head are bound with curly maple. Scale length is 24.75” and it’s fitted with Schertler open back tuners and a JJB-ELECTRONICS Prestige 330 pickup. Sound is nicely balanced with somewhat surprisingly good bas response for a smaller bodied guitar. Enjoy the photos.

Nice guitar Andy, It looks like a lot of thought and work, went into it.
Nicely done.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Very nice! How do you like the pickup? How were you even able to install one?

Love the ebony. Interesting sound hole arraignment. Nice work.

Thanks all for the kind comments.

I’m a big fan of the JJB pickups.Natural sounding to my ears, even without a preamp. Good value and easy to install.

There is a removable panel at the tail end of the guitar, held in place by the tailpin jack, that allows easy access to the inside of the body. Hopefully the pics below are self explanatory.

That's a nice looking guitar. Do you think the multiple sound holes in there location are giving you the perception of increase in bass response?
Is it braced like a conventional 00 or is it modified in the upper bout to support the offset sound holes?

Nope. The top isn’t braced quite like a conventional OO.

Thanks Mike.

It’s got a big bottom end that’s just a wee bit loose. Mids and uppers are quite mellow. Not as bright sounding as you might expect an ebony box would be.
