Here is a new test we will all have to conduct to prove that our instruments are worthy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbINtFnOeeE&feature=youtu.be There are more videos showing how we will have to survive an SUV drive-over and other abuse: https://klosguitars.com/pages/ukulele?utm_source=paid&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=ukuleleprospecting&fbclid=IwAR3Uf_jk4Ngcvy16vX_N3ji9zNCcA-XUT8KUm8Qp5-kRfqkugzixMqAn5GE Ed |

It survived the Prius, but with the SUV it wasn't even Klos. People talk about trying to make sonically matched pairs of guitars. I wonder if carbon fibre would allow you to do that? Ultimately I think it is a fool's errand - would we want every voice in the choir to sound the same? I have interleaved carbon fibre between sheets of wood veneer, and it does add some toughness, but I don't think I would drive a car over it. The Rainsong carbon fibre guitar I heard played live didn't sound too bad, so I do think they have a place in the market. |

I make CF guitars. I wouldn’t drop a mic on them, let alone a 40lbs cinder block. To me, that video is just stupid. I build with CF because of the tone. I think I have created an acoustic archtop with a rich and balanced acoustic voice that I couldn’t really get with carved spruce. It may not be what everyone wants tonally, but it has nothing to do with indestructibility. It reminds me of Martins Formica guitars. Imagine if they had a YouTube where they chopped vegetables on the back of their guitar and then wiped it down with a wet sponge. Yeah, that will make me want to play it! The editing looks rather suspect, cutting off just before the soundboard comes into view... And the real question is whether it can survive an angry spouse attack |

"It reminds me of Martins Formica guitars. Imagine if they had a YouTube where they chopped vegetables on the back of their guitar and then wiped it down with a wet sponge. Yeah, that will make me want to play it!" I've used one of the formica guitars I've made as a lunch counter. It was a "beach" guitar and that was better than laying my sandwich in the sand. I wonder if that ad will create warranty issues for them? "But it survived a Prius - I only drove over it with a smart car!" |
