Why do they come .240" instead of .250"? I just checked that on the SM site and the width is .218, I have a cheap caliper so maybe I'm off but it still seems odd that it isn't 3/16 or 1/4"

I'm going to cut my rod slot on the table saw so it shouldn't be problem dialing it in. I was going to buy a bit for my router so I could stop the channel before the nut. Then I thought how easy it would be to just run it through the TS and put a filler block in and cover it with a nice overlay.

.218” = 7/32” which are available.

I'm guessing the wonky sizes are the result of 'offshore' manufacture. I've been using Martin truss rods which are sized in inches.

Martin rods...1/4". We took the SM rod apart...easy milling of the channel with a 1/4" core box/roundnose bit and much beefier construction are why we use Martin rods (even when replacing a Gibson neck!).

Thanks for that post, Mr. Guthrie. I too use Martin rods. Such a pleasure! I never used Stew-Mac rods, but I used Allied rods. Just fine except for random breakage of the welds.

The Martins rods are straightforward to install, reliable, and seem to operate perfectly.

It's exactly 5.5mm... they are probably made in a metric land.

Well I bit the bullet and ordered the SM router bit. I like to stick with SM since I payed for free shipping, I can order thinks as I need them.
