This is the plan I'm building to. Does anyone know if this is a forward shifted design? How can I tell?

When I was researching the design for my first dreadnought type guitar, I came across this figure:

Forward shifted vs standard x-bracing layout.jpg

The figure is from an article on StewMac's website: https://www.stewmac.com/How-To/Online_Resources/Learn_About_Building_Instruments_and_Kits/Banjo_Killer_The_scoop_on_forward_X_bracing_for_greater_guitar_volume_.html

I think the number you want is from the body/neck join to the intersection of the X braces. Should be close to 9"+ but I would go to the UMGF and search what people over there
have documented.

I don't think it's forward shifted.

Here's another thread about that plan you should look at regarding the bridge plate.

Based on John Arnolds tracing taken from his original 1937 Herringbone 1"-3/16" from the lower edge of the sound hole to the center of the X. This has been my blueprint for my Dreadnought guitars not sure how it compares to any others.

How consistent is the sound hole location on Martin Dreads through the years. My experience is that the sound hole diameter is very consistent at 4". But I have not measured the distance from the front edge of the Martin dread to the front edge of the sound hole on very many.

Most people always talk about the location of the X behind the sound hole. It will change everything if the sound hole is a little more forward or a little rear shifted. The location of the X should be measured in terms of the 12th fret location. This keeps the relationship of the braces with the bridge and bridge plate consistent with the guitar you are trying to emulate.

What is the measurement from the front of the guitar to the front of the sound hole on your Martin D or on your Martin D blue print?

I'm also using John Arnold's '37 tracing. From front of box at 14th fret to soundhole is 3 3/4", soundhole is 4" so looking at 8 15/16" from front of box to center of the X.
