As I recall he's been there for a while.

He certainly has, Vice President of Marketing for 2 years now.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

I didn't know this, thanks Dave.

Two years is right about the same time frame as when StewMac was sold to a new owner too.

Interesting.

Years ago he worked at an advertising agency here in Columbus, OH where my wife also worked.

I met him a couple years when I replied to a Craigslist ad for mahogany & other wood - no tops or back & sides, just misc and B-grade stuff. He was moving at the time.

That explains why I get four or five emails a day from StewMac.

WARNING!!! If you watch that video, DO NOT stare at the center of Dan's shirt. I stared at it for a few minutes, and found myself in an other worldly trance. I went directly to the StewMac closeout page and ordered 2000 banjo tuner knobs. The good news is that I am a StewMax member, so the shipping will be free. The other good news is that I don't own any banjos.

I'm not talking about the flowered shirt in the intro. I am talking about the tie dyed shirt when he is talking to Brock.

To keep it positive, That method has made me a few simple, clean rosettes. Probably under an hour, and glued in.

Honestly, I'm glad to see him get another chance to be involved in the community. He's obviously very talented at conveying information. Hopefully that rut was a one-time deal.

I would say the current StewMac marketing approach is becoming pretty ham fisted and I would guess that it may be having the opposite of it's intended effect on long term customers.

I bet I get at least three-four emails a day from them now and it's all mostly meaningless and becoming annoying. On the other hand I love StewMac and their products and am afraid to unsubscribe for fear I might miss the cool needle in the haystack. :)

On the bright side, it appears they've finally gotten rid of that obnoxious popup begging me to join that mailing list :)

I only get about one email a day but yeah, even that is too much. I am glad they stopped sending the catalog a long time ago, or maybe I opted into that I don't remember.
