A day doesn't go by that we don't see something interesting or different in our shop and you never know what the cat might drag in.

This Epiphone is a new acquisition for one of our regulars who likes to shred at times. It came from Reverb with a badly out of adjustment neck, two nut slots that were too low, likely had never been set-up, and the jack was falling out and dirty. It needed everything intonation, nut slots, saddle slots, action, strings, etc.

An hour later it plays, looks and sounds respectable I just hope that no one sees me carrying it and thinks that I'm a pervert....

I assume that you have to use a strap to play these and although it didn't sound terrible with my finger style rendition of Alice's Restaurant the action was too low for that tune and style...:)

Shred on from the trenches in Ann Arbor. :? :D

Speaking of Flying Vs and the Detroit area, I got to see Lonnie Mack playing his Flying V at Sully's in Dearborn back around '93. Killer show.

Back when our building was a music store for 54 years for a while we had serial number 003 Flying V in a case downstairs with a $100,000 price tag on it.

It had been given to an electrician who did work at the g*bson f*ctory and g*bson had fallen on hard times and couldn't pay the guy for his work. So they traded him this early V. He didn't know how to play guitar so he took it home and put it under his bed for 40 years and then he died. His family brought it in to sell and had no idea that it was valuable.

The $100,000 tag was over priced and it didn't sell even after being reduced to only... $65,000. It sounded great if you could hold on to it. IIRC it went to Elderly and got sold and went back into hiding in a private collection.

You know what though? Those things aer the most comfortable guitars to play sitting down, I kid you not... Try it. Position it like a classical guitar ;)

They are also very comfortable to play standing with a strap. I doubt it's intended design was comfort but it amazingly is.

But they suck on the bench. Every time you pick up the neck the nearest point wants to slide off the edge of the bench. Same with the Explorer.

I know that Hesh is secretly coveting this and he finally manifested his dream.

Haha, and don't forget fender offsets. Can't lean those on anything, and any cradle guitar stand takes an awful lot of balancing to make work.

One of my best clients collects the various styles and types of Dimebag Darrell Razorback guitars. Each time he gets a new one it comes to me and gets his preferred setup. They are interesting to move around my little shop.

Yeah they are terrible as Chris said in terms of the shape wanting to slide off the bench or the points hitting something. The cases when hard cases won't fit our rack either which makes me want to charge them a storage fee per day....:). Just kidding on the storage fee.... kind of.
