It’s been a while since I’ve built a classical guitar and I was just wondering what Size wire classical players prefer? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Classical players are like every other player and vary in what they like. I had one very good repeat customer who preferred very wide, very tall frets (like what's called "jumbo"). We found those frets very difficult to install since they are extremely stiff and hard but they last pretty much forever with nylon strings. We use the Stewmac medium gauge (I think it's number 148) exclusively unless a customer requests something different. |

Most classical guitars I've seen use medium wire. |

Most of my customers are classical players. Jescar's 43080 ( a medium wire, .043" tall by .080" wide--very slightly taller than StewMac's 148) is the most common choice--barely. Many players prefer a taller wire--.050" or .055" tall, but still about .080" wide. A few like a wide, tall, "jumbo" wire, but that's pretty rare. |
