I can’t for life of me figure out what is going on. No strings are hitting / buzzing frets. I can’t find a loose brace. The G string buzzes on the 12th fret harmonic .... the bass E also buzzes when plucked open. In writing this I realize I’ve not checked to make sure there is tension on the truss rod, but I’m fairly certain I’d have made sure it wasn’t. Buzzing Any more ideas? Start with replacing the string. It's the cheapest thing on the guitar. |

A few questions: 1. Relief at 7th fret? 2. Action at 12th fret for E2 and E4? 3. 1st fret clearance for all strings? 4. Have the frets been rocked for high frets? We follow a procedure for initial string-up for acoustics similar to the following: - Set relief (usually 0.004-0.006); let things sit overnight - Set 12th fret action 0.010" high (e.g., 0.105/0.075 for strong strummer) - Set 1st fret action (this is nut action...E2 0.020"/0.018"/0.016"/0.014"/0.012"/E4 0.010") - Reset 12th fret action to desired action - Tweak nut action to final clearances (.002-.004 lower depending on player preference and technique) - Let things sit 24 hours, then re-tweak anything that has shifted. - At that point, bring the player back in for final setup. Both Mr. Morelli and the boss just go for a set of numbers in their head, setting things such that they settle to the final desired numbers after a few hours or days. I have to use the step-wise approach, hoping to make the sort of correlations which eventually will allow me to pull off the same stunt. Both gentlemen subscribe to the 10,000 hour rule of competence (five years of full-time, 2080 hour per year effort and study), which likely translates into a few hundred set-ups before gaining basic competence (perhaps the 4000 hour mark) and a thousand or more setups to achieve reasonable mastery. |

Well I just got back to the thread and REALLY appreciate the comments. Long story short I decided to make another nut. For whatever reason... the original issue disappeared.... Hmmm. I’ll definitely keep these suggestions tucked away Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I’ll follow this procedure on this setup:) Always helps to have a method Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Make sure when cutting the nut slots that they are ramped , i.e. they slope towards the tuners. Similar for the saddle, ramped at the back of the saddle, more ease the front of it, not so much round it. |

It should have been easy to diagnose the problem upfront, when you determined that the buzz only occurred on one or more open strings. |

Had one that had a similar situation . Neck was starting to warp slightly . |

I don't notch the saddle although over time the strings will wear a bit of a notch in them so folks might think they were originally made that way. |

High E had to remove the fret board level neck back out ( sanded and added carbon fiber ) then reset fretboard . |

I recently had a rattling buzz that drove me crazy. I finally found the problem was a loose ivoroid tuning machine knob. It took me ages to find. It was the least expected part that was the cause of the problem. |

Check the tuners... a friend of mine recently had a phantom buzz... turned out to be a loose something-or-other INSIDE the tuner button. G. |
