Got a recent USA Gibson in for a fret dress. 9 frets are high in places, 2nd fret is all high. No sign of fret wear at all. Thought all USA Gibson were supposed to be PLEK'd? |

Well, Colin - hard to beat a trained, experienced luthier who can actually think compared to a clueless button-pusher running a machine. |

Plek is just a tool, and so was the guy running the one that guitar went through.... |

Are any frets loose or raised? |

As Brian said, it is a tool and only as good as the operator. I know a guy here who has one and is able to do some amazing stuff with it. But he had the experience of doing hundreds of fret jobs before he bought it. I'd bet whoever is running them at Gibson has only been trained to put the guitar in the machine and press the button. It does make me wonder about the quality control department and the people who do the final inspection? Assuming those things exist at Gibson... |

I, for one, appreciate it, provides a fair amount of work for my bench. Of course, Gibson isn't alone.
