I always wince when I use my reamer to install an endpin jack in an acoustic. Can’t help wonder “what if someone wants to remove the PUP and revert back to a strap pin/button?” Stewmac has an endpin with an expanding filler thingy that never appealed to me, but that’s what it’s made for. But today I installed an endpin preamp in a newish California-built Larrivée. Its tail-mounted strap button was on the end of a bolt that went through the tail block into a T-nut. Removing the strap button and tapping the nut through to the inside left a hole exactly the right size for the jack — no drilling or reaming required! Very cool! So now I wonder where these things come from. I’ve had at least two clients in the past who were looking to plug jack holes and I’ve never had a good looking solution. Anyone else seen these and know where to get ‘em? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

These are standard on all Larrivee guitars I've seen. The sure making installing a pickup jack a simple operation. |

Well, easy enough to buy from Larrivée — a bit pricey, but good to know. thanks for the info! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Taylor sells 'em too. 10 bucks for chrome and 12 bucks for gold. I don't think that is a bad price. |

It's just a standard T nut with a piece of plastic attached to it-ingenious! |

That end of the hardware is not original or complicated, but the strap button itself, with the integrated bolt of the right size, is not a standard item. I can see the justification for paying a few dollars for that. But, on the other hand, I would probably just fill the hole with a dowel and then install a standard strap button. As long as the strap button has a big enough integrated washer to cover the hole, it would be invisible. I'm not crazy about being dependent on special hardware. |
