Seem to recall that Mohawk now makes Behlen. When I look at the Mohawk site, they have some Behlen products listed. |

I have been using Mohawk for a number of years now, but about a year ago I ran out and bought a quart of Behlen's to hold me over until I could get to the Mohawk distributor to pick up a couple of gallons. Some one had said Behlen's was either Mohawk or Sherwin Williams stuff rebranded. (Mohawk is probably S-W rebranded also) Behlen's smelled the same and worked the same as Mohawk. I use the gloss finish, but you can buy their finishes in different sheens ( in spray cans also if you don't want to buy a whole lot). www.mohawk-finishing.com/products/wood- ... ce-clears/ |

Mohawk does indeed make Behlens. I’ve used both. If you want a great nitro lacquer buy Cardinal paint’s nitro. Lower cure time and a bit more scratch resistant. I’ve also found its performance in spray application to be better. My nickels worth. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Well, I just bought a gallon of Mohawk Gloss. We will see, model number almost identical. Seems I've been down this road before. |

I like the Cardinal lacquer too. Best I have ever used. Much better than the old McFaddens. A bit pricey though. |

Thanks guys, appreciate it. I bought the Mohawk. I’ve def punted on wateborn. My last batch of Enduro Var was a nigthmare. Nitro is so simple, so basic. So repairable. |

...still, it seems I’ve bought Behlen blue print cans forever. Did they just change the label? |

Same product (M610-1407), just available at a much better price directly from Mohawk, and in 1 and 5 gallon containers (same thing with EZ Vinyl Sealer, M610-8007, $30.68 as of October 2018). You may wish to establish a business account with Mohawk Finishes, which takes just a call to them. With shipping from North Carolina to DC/Baltimore/Northern VA area in 4 to 8 gallon orders, about $42 per gallon ($33.70 plus shipping). We have a local distributor that quoted over $55 per gallon for Classic Instrument Lacquer, so we continue to order direct through Mohawk's online portal. |

I got a high quote from the local distributor in Wilmington. When I told him it was $32 online, he came down to $39, which was better than the online price + shipping (but not by much). Sometimes you feel like they treat you like the gorilla who walked into a bar. www.reddit.com/r/Jokes/comments/5jadvv/ ... nto_a_bar/ |

Well, if the Mohawk is same as Behlen, I'll be a happy camper. Is cardinal higher percentage solids? |

not all water lacquer is the same Em6000 works very well. Also Minwax lacquer does a great job. While not all finishes are the same they do have some basic qualities. I used Behlen and Mohawk for years but with the chipping issues I had started mixing minwax into them and it works well. That solved my chipping issues. |

Hi John, Was that the minwax brushing lacquer? What ratio did you mix it? I haven't noticed a lot of chipping from the Mohawk product when sprayed over epoxy or bare wood (self seal) but it is nice to make a product better if it can be. I have run into compatibility issues when spraying some lacquers on top of others, so I have avoided mixing them together. |

I uses the blue can and mixed starting at 10% and went to 50% polishes nice worked well that I even have use straight minwax from my local hardware store they can only get it in 1 qt cans but that if fine with me. I also used thinner and byutyl acetate 20 % thinner 10 retarder . |

John, what chipping issue are u referring to? First I have heard of this? |

when drill holes or reaming it often chipped especially when clearing for the bridge. Many of my friends have the same issue. They reformulate this as the government dictates VOCs. Even reamers popped finish off the tuner holes. |

Interesting on the chipping. I wonder how much of a widespread problem this is? Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk |

yes it works wonderfully still takes a good 2 week to cure like behlens but I am very happy with the results. I have been using LMIs water filler and the aqua coat. I think they are both excellent products. The aqua coat is so easy to use and is ready to go in 45 min. |
