I'm really liking how this Ambrosia maple is looking under the finish. I got this back and sides set from forum sponsor RC Tonewoods. The binding is Peruvian walnut.

Hey Jay. That does look stunning. How have you found that maple to work with? I assume that those black dots are worm holes that you needed to fill? Any stability issues? How heavy is it? It is going to be a very unique instrument.
Cheers

The wood is very easy to work with. I bend my sides on a hot pipe and this was the easiest set of sides I've done. It takes some time to fill all the beetle holes. I used epoxy dyed black. Keeping the black epoxy in the holes as much as possible and not getting it on the surrounding wood, especially the light maple, is helpful. If the black epoxy gets on the light maple, it can be sanded out but it's better not to have to do that. Aside from filling the beetle holes, there are no pores to fill so that's a plus.

I don't expect any stability issues. Ambrosia maple isn't like spalted maple which can be weakened by the spalting process. The wood feels similar in weight to mahogany.

Did you fill the holes or just let it be?

I briefly considered leaving them be and calling them micro-soundports™. Could have been the next big thing, but I filled them (~120) with black epoxy.

Now it gets stashed away for about two and a half weeks for the finish to cure.

Jay, Is that sinker redwood? Looks great with the ambrosia maple. The finish looks great too. I also use EM6000 and am very happy with the results...

Yes, it's sinker redwood. It has some nice colors and very tight grain. This is the first guitar I've built with it so I'm really looking forward to hearing it. It had a real nice ring to it when tapped.
