Just strung up my first build. Sounds pretty good. I think I’m hooked.

Congrats. Looks nice and you took some extra steps in decorative purfs.

My only advice is to seek counseling. It's not as bad as a heroin habit but pretty close :D

Good for you! Looks great. It sure is a good feeling isn’t it?

What he’s not telling you is that, while it is slightly less damaging than a heroin habit, it is more expensive :)

I’m glad to see another one hooked.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Nice job. It does look good, and it is yours. You have probably made a guitar that sounds and plays as well as a high-end factory instrument, and makes you feel even better. But you probably will need to make another..........

Btw, tell us about the shape and plan you used. It looks like maybe you moved the bridge back to make it a 12tretter. Did you do the brace layout yourself?

Looks Great! ...especially for number one. Nice purfs... I'm also curious about the shape and plan you used, or if you modified a plan (12 fret 000?). 12 fretters sound nice and I bet that one does too...

Nice looking build!

I’ve got a receipt for every tool, stick of wood, and set of tuners I’ve purchased since starting my first guitar. We are talking 10s of thousands of dollar since 2010. I’m kind of afraid to add them all up!

I don’t regret spending the money at all. Keep up the good work, M

Very nice looking guitar! The purfling is a distinctive touch. What do think of how it sounds? Better start setting aside funds for the future now.

Basically I just used a Martin 000 that I have for the body shape. Made a template of it then made the mold and bending form etc. I took my profile for the neck from the same guitar, 1-3/4 nut 2-1/8 string spacing, and pretty much replicated it, except it’s a 14 fret so of course moved the heel to the 12th for this one. As for the bracing, I got ahold of a stew mac 12 fret plan, had to close up the x brace a little to get the bridge plate in the right spot. This is a 25.4 scale. It’s cedar top with rosewood back and sides, vertical grain fir binding. It’s actually sounds really good, right there with the Martin and actually quite a bit louder. Plays like butter, I’m happy so far.

Great job! Isn't it a great feeling to play your own guitar? I mean, *truly* your own.

Beauty! That's a real fine looking guitar!

I recently acquired the first guitar I ever built back in 2001, the owner was talked into a trade. I have brought it back to playable status with a neck set and some fret work, I sure am happy to have it back. Hold onto this one!!
