Post subject:  Mahogany stained with baking soda solution

I’m always interesting in different ways of “staining” wood. I found this to be an interesting chemical alternative. The pic is of a mahogany block. The right side was brushed with a solution of 2tsp of baking soda dissolved in 1.5 cups of water.
It was simply brushed in and allowed to dry.

It definitely has a purple taste, but it isn’t quite so dramatic in person.
Just thought it was interesting

Interesting.
In general, purple woods tend to turn brown with age/oxidation. They also tend to appear more brown under finish.

How 'bout you brush some epoxy or some nitro over both sides to see how it looks?

The big question is, what does it look like after you take joe white's finished samples and leave them in the sun for a year?
