Bought an unusual looking Coco set from a retiring luthier many moons ago.
Never seen or heard of this in Cocobolo - anyone seem anything like this before?
The wood is dry.
Looks like flame or maybe bee's wing figure?
The whole set is perfectly quartered and the figure is all over but difficult to photograph with my poor camera skills.

Yeah, I remember seeing bees wing coco sets around on several occasions 16-20 years ago, when it was still abundant and (relatively) cheap.
I was mostly window shopping back then as I didn't start my first guitar until 2004 (after reading about it and looking at wood for 7-8 years).
I did buy a coco board when I was in college, sometime around 2000, for $90 shipped. It was mostly quartered, had nice ink lines and was big enough to get 4 sets and some trim out of. I remember thinking I was smart because nice sets at that time were $70-80 a piece...I still haven't resawn that board.

Got a picture of the sides? They might be a bit challenging to bend... curl is essentially run out (for lack of the actual term) and with the bees wing style of curl you have it might blow out when bending...

Sides are buried somewhere behind heavy awkward to move object, maybe have a look tomorrow - it's 1:30 a.m.
I think localised runout is essentially a good description.
Thanks for the warning, I'll be using SS, keep down the water, (and call on the gods of wood bending!) Either that or keep it as a retirement fund!
Any other suggestions to help welcome.

Wouldn't hold you breath Brad, no specific plan as yet, couple of other builds and a course hopefully first at least
