On a recenty finished guitar I made I noticed the pickguard lifting on the edges. when I looked closely I noticed the double stick tape was soft and gummy. I removed the pickguard. The pickgurd is celluloid nitrate and I used the tape for applying pickguards. Any ideas why this would happen? I have used the same process before with the same materials and have not had that problem. I want to reapply it .I completely scraped off the old tape from both the pickguard and the top so I am starting fro scratch-again.... |

Naphtha would have that effect on pickguard film adhesive, making it expand and soften...any chance you used naphtha around the guard to handle cleanup? |

I bought some pickguard adhesive from Stew Mac which after a couple of years stuck to it's own backing better than any thing else - apparently it does have a shelf life. |

I suppose that the good news is that you are likely well on the way to removing the guard and regluing it with fresh film adhesive! |
