Post subject:  Someone with L-0 / L-0 plans

I’m sorry to make a separate post about this because I have several posts up for this build, but I need some specific information.
This is the old 20s rounded lower bout body shape in question.

I have a set of plans ordered but it has been a week and they still haven’t arrived, and I’m kinda stalled.

All I really need is the size of the sound hole and the distance from the top of the guitar to the. Center of the sound hole. I can go from there.

Anyone have these measurements? It sure would be appreciated.

Thanks
B

This is the shape so there’s no confusion

There were at least 2 different soundhole sizes, 2 different scales, and some were 12, some 13, and some 14 frets clear. That looks like the bigger soundhole at 4". And the scale and frets clear will determine where the bridge goes and you can determine that best yourself when you decide on these features.

I’m making a 12 fret to the body design
So you’re counting 4 inches from the top to the top of the soundhole then..

Actually I’ll probably go 13 or 14 to body... in that case 4” to the top of the hole would work.
I’m using a short scale Martin fingerboard . Will just need to make sure the bridge will measure out in a good spot. It exciting to make a new shape

In the above picture it looks like the soundhole is nearly centered in the waist

I’m beginning to see the obvious. That the fret to the body dictates the location of the bridge. I feel 12 pushes the bridge too low on the lower bout. Actually 13 feels/ looks right

Also seeing that the lower the bridge moves on the body the wider the x brace has to be... yea gonna x brace this one

W x braces 90degrees works out about right. Now, this model is quite inexact haha... but the bridge would be adequately supported

13 to body puts the soundhole center looking right at 6 7/16th from the top

Snow

You have seen this before, but here is the 13 fret I just finished. The soundhole is 4", and the scale is 25.34". Knowing all the dimensions of the body you can scale all the information you need. Not that it is right, but the angle of the x is a little open. The braces are a little less than 1/4". The guitar sounds fantastic even though it is less than a month a old

Lovely.
So yes this confirms my 13 fret take on the build. I’ll be building to 25.4.

I built a series of Gibson “L” inspired guitars and also ended up liking the thirteenth fret ones the best.

The 4" measurement mentioned is the diameter of the soundhole. The distance from the edge of the body at the centerline to the centroid of the rosette varies based on the size of the soundhole, location of the body fret (12, 13, 14, etc.), number of frets (18, 19, 20, etc.), scale length, and the desired distance between the end of the fretboard extension and the edge of the soundhole.
