I have read that some use needle files for fret slots. I know nothing about that, but her you go: https://www.jimbodetools.com/collections/whats-new/products/one-dozen-six-inch-swiss-needle-files-unused-in-original-box-83057 Ed |

The needle files I have that look like those ones have safe edges so they wouldn't work for cutting fret slots. I can't tell from the photo about the ones in the link though. |

Quote: I have read that some use needle files for fret slots. I have several sets of needle files and I would never attempt to cut fret slots with them. Not only are they a poor choice for the job, but even if they were - it would take far too much time. I have touched up fret slots with needle files, but cutting is just not the job for a needle file. |

Some folks use a needle file to chamfer the fret slots, maybe that's what you're thinking of? |

I've used needle files to shape the nut's string slots and as mentioned to slightly chamfer the fingerboard fret slots to help the frets go in easier. |
