Ever snap an interesting pic of your build process? Let’s see it! Here’s a pretty neat one I took ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

This isn’t really a “build process shot” but I was finishing two guitars at the same time recently. My shoulder started getting tired so I sat down to take a break and the way they were setting on the bench in relation to the light made for a cool shot. I wish I had gone back and staged a similar picture with descent background. ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Build photos are a bit like country-western songs: include beer, summer, trucks, a girl, a dog, a divorce, and mom and you're good to go. All you need to compose a classic close-up build photo is some nice wood with a bunch of shavings (must have) and plane, a chisel, or a scraper (preferably all three). For a middle-distance shot, you need something large like a set of ribs, or a top with carved braces (with shavings of course), or a neck being carved (shavings) in a red vise. And don't forget a wall in the background covered with a multitude of chisels and/or clamps or shelves full of various planes. Sound hole binding and purfling ready to go in rosette: Attachment: Build pic 2.jpg Guess what this is: Attachment: Build pic 3.jpg Some cool shavings from scalloping braces: Attachment: Build pic 4.jpg

I finished carving a neck, bolted it on, then stood the guitar up on a window seat with the sun setting behind it ED |

"Guess what this is"... Dust from sanding ribs for top on a cylindrical dish. One of my favorites... ![]() |

Dan, I really like the carving on that electric! Two photos that show the great pain I went through to turn regular herringbone into Holzapfel 12 string reverse herringbone. Try removing both black strips of the herringbone without disintegrating the center part sometime. ![]() ![]() Top on Holz is nearly 3/16"! |

Thanks Haans! I am teaching myself how to use hand-held cutting tools. I finally figured out how to put a burr on a scraper, I bought a real burnisher. Always a treat to see your work! Dan |

A photographer friend likes to do projects with local craftsmen for his portfolio and approached me for a shoot. I thought this picture was pretty cool. The guitar was a gift for Robert Earl Keen and the copper plate on the neck block got an engraving of his scriptorium. He even played it for me at the Georgia Theater when I gave it to him! ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Lord have mercy it’s a FIVE POUND BASS! |

Just mocked up for the picture, still needs a little work but other projects are at the top of the pile. It was a cigar box contest, use a paint can lid for a resonator, otherwise you are free to build what you will. ![]() ![]() |
