It might be a good idea to discuss the various fire hazards that can be in a woodworking shop. I'll admit that there are probably several that I have never thought of. A discussion like this could open some eyes and may save a shop (or lives) someday. I have a timer switch built into the outlet that powers my bending iron and blanket so I don't accidentally leave them on overnight. I know not to leave oily rags wadded up in the shop. I have a smoke detector and fire extinguisher in the shop. Beyond that, I haven't given too much more thought to what I should or should not be doing. |

Beyond that, +1 for a timer on my bending blanket!! Space heaters on under sized circuits connected to an under sized extention cords buried in sawdust. Cooler weather is on its way... Additional: We use a Canary all-in-one security device is the shop. It has a video camera, night vision video camera, temp sensor, humidity sensor, and an air quality sensor. When there's motion detected or the humidity changes it lets you know. They are under $200 each. All you need is wifi and a mobile device. Pretty cool! |
