I've got a slight problem. I made my headstock about 7/16" thick. A little thin perhaps... But, I did not expect that the Gotoh 510 tuners wouldn't go down that far. It looks like I'm about 1/32" too thin. So, they don't tighten down to 7/16". I'm thinking maybe one thing I could do is grind the threaded insert down slightly on my grinder. As long as I don't foul the threads I think that could work. I suppose another remedy would be to use some different tuners, but I sure like the Gotoh 510s and this build is calling out for them. Any thoughts or suggestions? |

I can't tell much about the veneer, but possibly scrap the old one and put on a thicker one. |

Short term fix - washers. |

I just completed the finishing on this one, probably the best finish I've done. I'm sure not going to remove and replace the headplate at this point... and adding a washer wouldn't be very professional.... So... how about grinding down the threaded insert. Am I likely to booger it up? Does anyone know of other tuning machines that will tighten down to 7/16"? |

Look for some different tuners? |

Well, try it. If you crap out a bushing they're easy to come by. But I'd think that would probably work... |

Okay - For anyone that is interested... or has this problem in the future. I went ahead and ground down the threaded inserts for these tuners to fit my "thinnish" headstock and they fit perfectly. Sometimes you have to not be afraid to try something... |

You might want to measure the length of the screws and make sure they won’t poke through the front. |

What about adding another layer to the back strap? Ed |

The guitar is finished. After the endless finishing process I have no interest in going back to add 1/16”. Besides, it looks fine, good in fact and the problem is solved... |
