I just finished my first EVO fretted all laminate Maple archtop with the plates from Steve Holst. (Very nice). Parallel braced. I have done laminate backs but this was the first top.

I was surprised at how good the acoustic tone was and plugged in with a 12 pole Kent Armstrong floater and Shatten thumbwheel controls it has almost a reverb bell-like tone that is very pleasing. Diffferent from the solid plate archtops I have built with similar electronics.

Have any of you noticed a change in tone with EVO fretwire?

I've recently started using evo. In fact I just fretted one moments ago. I too have not noticed any difference in tone, only in looks.

Beautiful thinline, Terrance. How do you laminate the plates? Vac-bag?

It is actually 3” in depth Berry, looks thin in the picture.

The plates are from Steve Holst, ( http://www.pacinfo.com/~sholst/lamintroduction.htm ). They were very nice. I did the double sides myself with a clamping form and Unibond 800.

I have used laminate backs from Acme Archtops in the past but not since it changed ownership.

I've only used EVO a few times a while back, can't say I noticed a tonal difference.
Really a beautiful looking instrument!

I play out weekly and rotate between two guitars, one with EVO and the other with nickel silver. I haven't noticed any difference at all.

Gorgeous guitar, Terence! I love the burst.
What's your method of applying it?

Thanks for the responses folks. I also used a new tailpiece design with a pretty heavy brass skeleton topped with ebony so that might be a tonal factor.

Brad my sunburst technique is simple.

1. Invest in a good shipping case.

2. Send it to Tony Ferguson in Nuncia MI :)

Nice fiddle!

I have used EVO and the player did not like them. He had his luthier replace them. I don't use them any more.

I sell laminated plates also. I use thick veneer.

As Ken notes players can be pretty picky so I don't bother with EVO for repair clients or guitars for sale, I just use nickel silver - unless the customer specifies they want EVO or stainless. I use EVO on my guitars (most of them anyway) just because is lasts longer.

Very nice Terry!
I used EVO's on one F5 mandolin. Couldn't tell any difference except hated the gold wire...
