I know there’s a LOT of thread out there about the topic but I’m wondering, is there merit to filling the pores with sanding dust first? Or will it matter in the scheme of things?

I would think the epoxy would pull the dust out if the pores and you'd have a weird coat of dusty slurry to deal with...

Definitely clear out the pores, otherwise you risk a guitar covered in randomly coloured spots, depending on what and how much was in the pores.

Leaving dust on the surface anytime, anyplace either before or between wet coats of finish material is a great way to virtually guarantee delamination of the film.

This is my first try using Z-poxy.
Ebony and Koa.
I definitely would blow out and remove sanding dust.
I did three applications, sanding between coats.
I left a solid coat over all surfaces.
I did not heat or thin the epoxy.
I’m halfway through spraying lacquer with no issues.

Pumice pore fill or sanding in egg whites for example creates a slurry which is essentially dust mixed in with the binder. So it's not like it is unthinkable right? but yeah doing it dry like that the epoxy would pull it out and you'd be dealing with a mess.

That's a neat looking guitar Smith. It presents a cool looking illusion like there is something wrong with it
