If you don't have room a guitar vise works well...

Pardon the mess...

Congratulations on the new addition to your shop! I imagine you can put that in the middle of the floor and have easy access to the guitar from all sides if you want. I'm limited on space so I have exactly the same setup as Steve. I like that the pipe clamps can be unscrewed from the side of the bench and stored away on a shelf.

Nice. Been planning on making one. Did you have plans, or just work it out on the fly?

I finally got a Troji a few years ago. My small shop is why I didn't do it sooner. It is so useful for working on the box and fitting the neck that it's worth putting up with.

Looks great! I don’t use a troji, but I get similar functionality out of a Veritas twin screw vise with thick foam inserts and a big dog bed on the floor underneath to guard against an accidental fall. Having the vise attached to a stout laminated maple bench provides decent stability. But if I didn’t have my setup, a troji would be a really useful addition.

I've just used an 18mm ply back board screwed to the side of a bench, with 2 x 15' radiused hold-offs, and a couple of 6mm ply boards soft lined with 2 quick clamps for years due to lack of floor space. Stored under a bench when not in use.

Mine is like Steve’s. I copied Sylvan Wells’ design many years ago. I do have pipe flanges screwed to a couple of locations as lack of portability is one downside of this design.

I consider it an essential fixture. Couldn’t live without it. You will feel the same. Great for neck fitting, leveling sides, and scraping binding.
