Ok so I reached point where I was acquiring so much Tonewood that I needed to keep track of the al the details. Its nice to have the electric, acoustic. and ukulele stock all accounted for and organized in excel with all the details. With 200 plus sets plus bracing stock and neck blanks and all the misc parts it took weeks to organize. Who else does this?

Only my CITES-listed stock is catalogued and photographed. I'd rather be building... :0)

Excel spreadsheet here too. I also have photos of all the tops and back & sides sets. I set it up pretty much from the get go so it's not been hard to keep it current. I use it to know the total materials cost for each guitar fairly exactly. It's also a very helpful tool when planning out a new guitar to be able to get a quick overview of the materials I have in hand. I used to be responsible for making the annual budgets for the major portion of the operating costs of the last company I worked for so this very easy by comparison.

Typically I just notate species, age, supplier, date received, and date milled if known and the cost. I just can't remember after stock piling 200 plus tops and 200 + set.s

I just write everything on the wood itself and then store it away.

I go the Excel route. I also take a photo of each piece and plan to link the spreadsheet to the pic, but haven't gotten around to it yet. (15 years in the making). What? Me procrastinate?

I have an excel spreadsheet with all of the tops on one page and B&S sets on another page. But I draw the line there. Neck wood gets source, date, and price penciled on the blank itself. Raw lumber sits around until it gets milled, and then a rough guess at cost is added to the spreadsheet for the resulting B&S sets.

It's about as scientific as anything you will see on TV. laughing6-hehe

I just write common name, date, who I got it from and cost on the wood then chuck it up on the shelf
