Is there another way to remove or keep finish off the fretboard extension area on the body of the guitar other than taping off that area? If you tape off the area, What kind of tape do you like and how far from the fretboard edge do you put back? |

Yes, you can score and route off the lacquer (or use a very sharp chisel). When masking, I use sign maker's tape. It is very thin and low tack. I stay about .050 in from the footprint edge. |

Frisket low tack masking film, matt, set back a little from the outline about 0.75 mm. It's only 1 thou thick, finish levels over it, but you can still see it, even with silk/matt finishes. |

I use frisket film as well and in the same manner as Colin has described. |

I use a razor blade as a mini card scraper to remove the finish. |

I just used blue masking tape and set it around a sixteenth in. |

I'm with Haans. Blue masking tape about 1/16" in... Easy-peasy, nothing special... |

My fretboard extensions are bolt-on so no need to mask... M |
