I need to get an HVLP setup for doing mostly wood working and an occasional instrument I would would like to spend about $400-700. Anyone have a model or brand they really like?

Lucky you, your budget stretches to this range - https://www.ebay.com/itm/Fuji-Platinum-Mini-Mite-Turbine-2803-T75G-Stage-Turbine-System-w-Gravity-Gun/263051151752?epid=1109985423&hash=item3d3f120988:g:dkoAAOSwi7RZNqWY
Get the 1 mm cap for waterbourne lacquers.
Oh, and and the whip hose is an essential really, I've done it with and (once only) without.
If you can stretch a little more, this upgrade https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=Fuji+Mini-Mite+4&_sop=15

I'm with Colin, if you can stretch the budget, go with a 4 stage Fuji. It will cover most finishes when using the correct cap set. Spraying without a whip hose just once will make you run out and get one.

I've got a Q4 Gold, and love it! Yours will be quieter, David, and you'll never regret buying better!
