Went for my thin CA and found that it is now medium or thick CA. I ran over to my nearby Klingpour's and bought some new thin. I was kinda wondering if the old stuff that thickened up could be used for brushing on or whether it has lost it's adhesive properties. What do you think, should it not be trusted for brushing on? |

I don't know for sure but it seems that all the old CA I have does indeed cure but takes a lot longer to do so. I don't know if its strength has been compromised or not; I don't use it it for stressed joints. It seems okay for holding in side dots, inlay bits, jigs and the like. I'd like to hear from someone who knows for sure. It would be nice to know I could count on it and just view it as having more open time. |

I've never tested it's streght in any scientific manor but I have tested old CA and have found the same as Bryan said above, it takes longer to cure but it's still pretty strong. I almost always just toss it in the trash anyway though, it's relatively cheap and why risk it. |

I just use it till it gets thick enough to annoy me then I toss it. I have not noticed any lack of strength but who knows? |

Funny you mention this, Steve. I just did the binding on my current guitar and my normal procedure is to tape the binding and purfling in place leaving gaps in the tape. I put drops of thin (StewMac #10) on the binding at the gaps, pull the tape, then just run a bead of #10 around the seam and watch it soak in. My half full bottle of #10 was, as you say, about #20 - I put the drops on and they kind of sat on the top. Put the guitar aside and ordered two new bottles of thin. I'll probably use the old stuff for non stressed work and filling some gaps - it seems to cure fine. |

I keep mine stored in a dorm reefer I keep in my shop. Extends the CA’s life. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

My thin becomes my medium. My medium becomes my thick. The fresher stuff does seem to cure faster but seems just as strong. |

Freeman, I always get more thin out too because, as you pointed out, when it gets thick it just won't wick in. I try to keep at least one bottle of new unopened thin in the fridge so it will be there when I need it. |

You keep your reefer in your refrigerator? ...probably a good idea... |
