Anyone out there own one? would like to get some feedback before buying one looked at the wen 6502 on amazon and the low end ryobi and an HF models .Plan to use it for uke FB, bridges , bone nuts and saddle and other small parts Thank you, |

I have an old sander for about 30 years, done many a project on it. It is quite useful but I will eventually get a longer version to do a full size fretboard on it. |

Well, I absolute love the small disc sander for nuts and saddles. Never got much use from the belt. Though the end of the belt can make a real nice thickness sander if you make a little contraption for it. The disc usually has a crown so you need to flatten it. When I did my Reno a few years ago, there was no good place to,put the 4x36, and I miss it... |

if you want the best get a Jet if not I like the Rikon 4x36. with a 6" disk combo. Rikon is sale high now at woodcraft 10% off |

What part of the fretboard are you guys doing with those sanders? Ed, I've noticed a crown on the belt rollers, but was surprised to hear there might be one on the disk. Guess I need to check... |

The crown on the roller is go keep the belt centered. The crown on the disk is likely just a result of their machining process. It's nice to get it flat especially for saddles... |

If you want to just buy a cheap Harbor Freight one, to see if you like it, I have found that the motors in those sanders are excellent for building your own woodworking tools. I am powering my motorized dish sander with the motor from one of those cheap sanders. So, if it winds up not working the way you want, you can chop it for parts. Depending on sale prices, it can be a lot cheaper than buying a motor on its own. |

I have the Jet 6x48. Endless uses. Bone work, fret boards, on and on. You make ukes. the 4x36 will work just fine. Edit: Bridges, saddles too. I have to admit when it came to tools like this, I haunted other forums to find stuff like this used. I got my Jet for way less than new cost and it was and is way like new. But if you have settled on HF or Ryobi, then go for it. A good selling forum is over at sawmillcreek.org. Very reliable. |

I have the Porter-Cable PCB420SA Belt with 8" Disc Bench Sander, 4" x 36" and it has held up well for me over 3-4 years. I use it almost everyday in the shop. For the price it was pretty good. I had a ryobi that I repaired about 4 time in the few years that I had it. It constantly broke belts. TThe biggest issue I have with the Porter Cable is that the tables do not lock well. Each time I use it I need to check that the table is square. I am the opposite of most and use the belt and not the disk very often. Although the 8" is not a bad size for a lot of tasks. |
