Hi Folks,

I wanted to share a picture of my latest rosette. I like to make my own end-grain mosaic tile rosettes. This alternating rams horn motif is one I've used on my last few guitars. But this one has an additional twist. Can you guess my customer's name given only what you see in this photo? :ugeek:

If you are interested in how I create these rosettes, I've written up the process here. Enjoy!

So are the inner and outer rings in some sort of code?

Yes indeed [:Y:] Think of long distance communications from a century ago.

Lol, for whatever reason I got it right off the bat. Paul’s name is on the outer ring. What a fun thing!

As Brad mentioned above, the rings are in Morse code. The red diamond is the "dash" symbol and the white plus sign is the "dot" symbol. A table with morse code can be found on wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morse_code

Outer ring spells out "Paul E Micheletti 17" ( I added the 17 year because I had some more space to fill)
Inner ring spells out "Dwight Jacobs", my customer.

The Morse code symbols are made from 5 layers of veneer at 0.020" thick each. Glued up, this makes the tiles 0.100" tall which is just the size of the larger teflon inlay strips available from LMI. I glued up the veneer rings with the teflon strip and then pulled it out after it set. It resulted in a perfect channel to tuck these tiny tiles into.
